I WANT TO VOLUNTEER
So you have decided that you want to volunteer.
Your reasons may be wide and varied: You may want some work experience to help you on your way towards a paid job. You may want to offer your valuable time to serve the community and feel good about having spread a little happiness in the world. You may feel that you need to get out and about more and make friends as well as doing something positive. WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO IN ORDER TO BECOME A VOLUNTEER? You make contact with the relevant organisation. (That's us, in case you haven't clocked on yet!) There are two ways that you can make contact with us. One is through the do-it website. That is: do-it.org.uk You can register officially and apply to the post of your choice on the internet. The other is by personal contact. You can phone us directly on 020 8536 1937 and make an appointment to meet our charming volunteer co-ordinator who will conduct a one 2 one interview with you, and register you. You can discuss what sort of work you are interested in, what experience you have and the volunteering opportunities that are available at the time of interview. You can also make an appointment by e-mail: volunteers @ vncnewham.co.uk WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM VNC? The practical procedure is that we hold registration sessions at which people who wish to become volunteers can come and register. These sessions are sometimes held at outreach sites across the borough, and sometimes in the conference room at our office. All the organisations that offer these placements are registered with us and have agreed to provide our volunteers with a quality placement. As our volunteer you can expect continued support from us. We also hold volunteer forums that you can attend to meet other volunteers and discuss any issues that you may feel you need to share.
